TransCanada Sponsors the North American Indigenous Games 2014

The 2014 North American Indigenous Games are taking place in Regina, Sask. this week, July 20 - 27. The theme for this year's event is "Raising the Bar." The event will showcase unity, sport, culture, youth, volunteerism and team work between First Nations, Metis and Non-Indigenous communities by recognizing the healthy lifestyle choices young Indigenous people and future leaders from all over North America have made.

Athletes and teams from 21 regions in North America's Indigenous communities will compete in the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). The participating teams include 13 Canadian provinces and territories and 8 regions throughout the U.S.A. Each region is comprised of 3 to 5 states.

In addition to the thousands of participant's family and friends and the hundreds of spectators, the event is expected to attract over 3,700 athletes (ages 13-19), 200 team management and mission staff personnel, 1,000 coaching staff, 3,500 host community volunteers and 200 cultural and entertainment performers.

"TransCanada is thrilled to sponsor the Regina 2014 NAIG," says Andrea Jalbert, TransCanada Vice-President, Community and Sustainability. "Through our Community Investment program, we support organizations and initiatives that bring communities together. The NAIG will do just that - welcome athletes, teams and families from North American Indigenous communities as they celebrate excellence in sports and culture."
