Richland County Livestock Judging Teams Place 6th at the NILE

Nine Richland County 4-H members attended the Northern International Livestock Exposition (NILE) in Billings, MT on Monday, Oct. 17th. Becca Deming showed market lambs and market hogs, and Sarah Helmuth and Cooper McNally showed market hogs, as well as participating on the Richland County Livestock Judging Teams.

Attending Senior Livestock Judging Team members were Helmuth, Beth McMillen, Ali Merritt, and Emma Torgerson. Attending Junior Livestock Judging Team members were McNally, CJ Nevins, Grady Larson, and Terry Reese. Only eight members of each county’s team can attend the NILE, which is determined by a minimum participation in two competitions, and a calculation of their highest scores at those competitions.

The Senior and Junior Livestock Judging Teams both took 6th in their divisions. Individually, Junior member Nevins took 8th, McNally took 14th, Larson took 26th, and Reese took 29th. Individually Senior member Torgerson took 20th, Merritt took 26th, McMillen took 27th, and Helmuth took 31st.

The NILE is an annual competition that Richland County 4-H has had members participate in every fall. Qualifying for the NILE is a recognized accomplishment that requires hard work and dedication and 4-Hers look forward to it all year long. It is the most challenging 4-H competition of the year, and congratulations go out to those who participated this year.
