LYIP Land Owner Consent Forms In The Mail, Immediate Response is Critical

Lower Yellowstone Irrigation Project has mailed land owner consent forms to owners of irrigated fields on the west side of the main canal within the Savage and LYIP Irrigation districts in order to get irrigation water rights officially recognized with the State of Montana.

Even though irrigators have been using the water for decades, those water rights are not officially recorded with the state, which is currently going through the water adjudication process. Water rights must be recorded now so water cannot be shut off in the future.

All landowners on the deed must sign the consent form so please contact LYIP at 406-433-1306 immediately with contact information for absentee landowners.

This process is time sensitive, so LYIP asks that affected landowners immediately sign and return the consent forms in the stamped envelope provided. All consent forms must be in the LYIP office by April 15. Please call LYIP with any concerns or questions.

Public meetings to discuss the issues involved in the water rights process will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 19 at the Moose Lodge in Sidney and at 4 p.m. at the Savage Senior Center. Please plan to attend one of those meetings.
