Missing Juvenile (Updated September 9, 2020)

(Updated Wednesday, September 9) On September 5, 2020 at about 1:05 pm the Richland County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing swimmer in the Yellowstone River about a mile south from Richland Park. The swimmer was identified as 13 year old Ira David Lawrence from Watford City, ND A search of the area continued for next four days by air, water and land.

On Wednesday September 9, 2020 at about 1:59 pm the body of Ira Lawrence was recovered in the Yellowstone River by law enforcement Dive Team.

Sheriff John Dynneson and Richland County Sheriff’s Office expresses our sincere sympathy to the family, friends and neighbors of Ira Lawrence.

The sheriff’ office wishes to thank all those that took part in the search or offered to assist in the search.

(Updated Tuesday, September 8) The search continued a second day for the 13 year old male reported missing while swimming in the Yellowstone River in Richland County. After searching the area where the swimmer was last observed by walking the banks, on the water and in the air, no recovery has been made. Sheriff John Dynneson, the Sheriff’s Office and Richland County Community express our thoughts and prayers to the family. Thank you to all those that have assisted in this search.

(Original story) On September 5, 2020 at about 1:05 pm the Richland County Sheriff's Office received a report of a individual that went into the Yellowstone River about one mile south of Richland Park. It was found that a 13yr old male, who had been in the water with others, was found missing from the rest of the group. Search began on water and air by law enforcement, Fire, Fish and Game, and volunteers from Montana and North Dakota. Recovery search continued last night till dark and started up again at daylight. Richland County Sheriff's Office will update with any additional information when available.
