James Family Completes New Farmhouse In Alexander

Kit and Tammy James, Alexander, are just completing their new farmhouse on the original James property southeast of Hwy.85. Kit and Tammy worked together for a year and a half to design their new home.

The front entrance to the home features tile flooring and a wall designed by Afton Ray-Rossol, Sidney. Rossol also did custom painting in the basement and dining room.

MacGrady Construction, Sidney, was the general contractor. Curtis and his crew worked diligently on every detail of this custom home.  A few of the special features include a recessed TV entertainment center that is situated beneath large log beams that MacGrady was able to find in Belgrade, MT, a rock fireplace, knotty pine walls and ceilings and they even made arched doorways and trim out of the pine, which was a challenge.

The kitchen is large because when the family gathers they need a lot of space to enjoy being together. The kitchen has a very efficient u-shaped layout of Rustic Hickory natural finished cabinets, complimented by a Laneshaw Cambria Quartz countertop, all designed by Creative Solutions, Sidney. The extended counter has seating for 4 on each side. Situated in the center of the kitchen is a baking island with a swing-up mixer shelf. An efficient beverage and breakfast bar sits on the opposite wall with a sliding barn-type door at the entry to the walk-in pantry, which has plenty of room for a freezer and floor to ceiling adjustable shelves by Lifespan Closets from Creative Solutions.

The laundry room features cabinets painted a combination of latte with brown accent and cashew with coffee glaze, accented by laminate tops of cream, taupe and gray. The laundry room also features a wall storage cabinet for mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, plus lots of counter space and a deep sink. Floating shelves above the washer and dryer are fashionable as well as functional.

"All of the contractors were very easy to work with, especially when it came to the trim work," says Tammy. "Our son, Kole, an electrician, was very instrumental and helpful in helping design the house."

The Bradshaw Cambria Quartz accents the gorgeous tile work done by MacGrady, in the custom shower and drop-in tub in the master bath as well as compliments the L-shaped Rustic Hickory vanity ensemble. A private toilet with a door sits off the main bathroom.just across from a full sauna.

In addition to the work done by MacGrady Construction, Quality Concrete, Chuck Thiel, laid the concrete; Builders FirstSource, Sidney, supplied building materials; Ryan Dempsey, Sundance Construction, Sidney, was responsible for the perf-a-taping; Creative Solutions, Brenda Larson, Sidney, supplied and designed the cabinets, countertops and closet organizers; Sidney Paint and Glass and B Home Design, Heidy MacGrady, Sidney, provided the flooring; plumbing supplies and fixtures were supplied by Agri-Industries, Sidney; HVAC by Frontier Heating, Sidney; Kole James, Anchor Electric, Alexander, (son of the owners), installed the electrical systems; Afton Ray-Rossol designed all of the custom painting throughout the home.  "We love our new home and really appreciate everyone's hard work to make it possible," stated Tammy.
