They had struggled for years but now, under their new coach, the volleyball team has excelled. Anil Kara is not from around here. He was born and raised in Turkey. He loved volleyball and had played it since he was in the 4th grade. While pursuing a degree in physical education at a university in Turkey he came to Richland County as part of an exchange student program. He moved to Sidney in 2014 and taught P.E. at Sidney Middle School. He has since worked for the Richland County Sheriff's office for seven years and coached for Fairview's volleyball team for five years. He was able to get them to State. Before Anil began coaching the Sidney Varsity Girls Volleyball team at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, they had been unable to win a single game for the past three years.
Coach Kara is excited and proud that the girls have been able to make wins and have worked hard to be ready for divisionals. He is working with them to see them go further. divisionals will be held in Sidney this year Nov. 2-5.
