Father Son Baseball

On Saturday, May 6, the Sidney Eagle baseball team played Stanley, ND. The head coach of Stanley is Corey Rice, who is the father of assistant coach for the Sidney Eagles Jayd Rice.

This is Jayd's second year of teaching and coaching at Sidney High School. His dad, Cory, has coached Babe Ruth and Legion in Stanley since the late 90s, so Jayd grew up as a little kid on the field.

"Sports has always been an important part of my life, especially baseball and football. I was born into it. My younger brother played college baseball at Mayville State, and I played football at Dickinson State. My heart rests in coaching and teaching. My goal is to get these kids to love the sport so that their kids can grow up playing T-ball and so forth. I'm excited to be a conduit of bringing baseball back to our town with both legion and high school baseball. My belief is to play as much baseball as possible. I challenge myself to be the best coach I can possibly be. There are so many life lessons learned in the game of baseball. I feel having my dad as my coach, and even being able to be "coached" at home, gave me an advantage coming into teaching and coaching. My dad and I are excited for this game. We do everything together. We call each other every night and talk about baseball. Last night we both won, so we are coming into this game saying we want to beat each other bad," said Jayd Rice. The Sidney Eagles won 9-8.
