Jacob "Jack" Lorenz, 79 of Fairview, MT peacefully passed away on Wednesday November 1, 2023, at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive, MT with family by his side.

Jack was born to Jake and Doris (Baumann) Lorenz on January 29, 1944, in Portland, OR. Jack joined his older brother Gilbert and sister Patsy. His brothers Jim, Ken, and Jess, along with sisters Linda and Judy soon joined the family. He spent his childhood years in the Buford and Fairview area.

Jack joined the army in July of 1961. After completing his basic training, he was stationed in South Korea. Jack was a combat engineer during his tour in Korea. He talked a lot about his time in Seoul, South Korea and the many times they blew up bridges and other structures. Jack received an honorable discharge and returned home after serving four years in the army.

In October of 1966, Jack married Ruth Deming in Fairview, MT. Jack and Ruth were blessed with three children, John, Rosa, and Char. After a tragic car accident took the lives of his sisters Patsy and Judy, Jack and Ruth took in Jack's nephew, Louis Tornabeni. Jack loved and cared a great deal about Louis and always considered him a son. Jack and Ruth divorced in 1973. Shortly thereafter, Jack's third daughter, Sheryl, was born.

In July of 1980, Jack married Dennise Ferrell in Sidney, MT after being a couple for 3 years. They were blessed to have had Lisa, Cathy, and David join their family. During this time Jack worked in the oil field as a welder and owned his own welding truck. When the oil boom slowed, he drove water truck and continued to do mechanic work. He loved to ride motorcycles and they spent many years going to Sturgis, with their best friends Don Karst and Cindy Tyler (Nelson). Jack and Dennise divorced in 2005, after 28 years.

Jack then moved to Lemon, SD for several years before moving to Billings, MT to be closer to his sons after his health continued to worsen. This move also brought him closer to Summer Vanhook, Ruth's youngest daughter, who was like a daughter to Jack and Dennise. Billings is where Jack met Jean Reuter and they soon became friends. They moved to Fairview to live together and were very happy together for the short time they had. Jean passed away in the fall of 2022. When Jack's Parkinsons and dementia became worse, he became a resident at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive, MT.

He was a "jack" of all trades. There wasn't much that he hadn't tried and that he couldn't do. He owned his own mechanic shop in Fairview for a period of time. He also ran heavy equipment for Wayne Neu Construction, He loved driving truck over the road. He enjoyed traveling and seeing different areas of the country.

He is survived by his children John (Lynn) Lorenz of Glendive, MT, Char Lorenz of North Platte, NE, Sheryl Anderson of WA, Lisa Sundheim of Sidney, MT, Cathy Layton of Minot, ND, and David (Kelsie) Lorenz of Billings, MT; his brothers, Gilbert (Sally) Lorenz of Bismarck, ND, Kenneth (Jan) Lorenz of Bismarck, ND, Jesse (Pam) Lorenz of Wendell, ID, and Floyd Daniels of Paonia, CO; along with 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who he loved dearly.
