Williston STAR Fund Seeks Advisory Board Member

The Williston STAR Fund is seeking candidates interested in serving on its advisory board. The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 23, at 5 p.m. The applications may be emailed, or hand delivered to the Williston Economic Development office.

The Williston STAR Fund got its start in 1991 when voters approved a 1% city sales tax to provide infrastructure debt relief (75% of collections) and job creations and community development (25% of collections). The long-lasting program has been approved by voters several times and it currently sunsets on June 30, 2030.

Since 2010, the jobs creation and community development portion of the STAR Fund has assisted over 300 projects including retail businesses, restaurants, daycares, housing developments, manufacturing, industrial, and quality of life ventures.

The STAR Fund is governed by a seven-member advisory board. The board meets the first Tuesday of each month from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch is provided. The new board member will fulfill Dana Johnson’s term, which expires in June 2024. The new member will have the option to commit to a 3-year term at that time.

High priority will be given to a candidate that possesses:

• Experience in finance

• Small business owners and entrepreneurs

• Basic general knowledge of business development

If you feel you are an ideal candidate, please submit a single page document outlining why you are interested along with any other board experience you may have. The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 23, at 5 p.m. The applications may be emailed, or hand delivered to the contact below.
