ABATE Urges Safety

The Lower Yellowstone Chapter of ABATE (American Bikers Aiming Toward Education) would like to remind everyone that motorcycle season has once again begun. Motorcycles can be difficult to see. They ask all drivers to be aware of their surroundings and look twice before changing lanes or entering roadways.

All motorists should ride in a safe and prudent manner, and be respectful of all other users of the roadway. Know your motorcycle and your own abilities, and ride accordingly. Wear the proper safety gear. Take a Motorcycle Safety Training Course. MSU Northern offers education classes for the beginning rider to the experienced rider.

Once again, MSU Northern will be offering 3 Basic Rider Course in Glendive during the month of June. You can register online at [email protected] or by calling 1-800-922-BIKE (2453). Anyone that takes a class in Glendive and successfully completes the class will be reimbursed for 50% of the cost. This is an incentive to take the class, and reimbursement is from the Lower Yellowstone Chapter of ABATE.

The Lower Yellowstone Chapter of ABATE would like to thank the Art students from Dawson County High School and from the Lambert Public School for participating in our contest for Motorcycle Safety Drawings. Winners have been chosen, and their artwork will be displayed on billboards in the area during the summer months. The students all did a great job, and thus made it difficult to choose the winners.

A few reminders to our fellow riders:

1. Don’t Drink & Ride/Drive

2. Check out your motorcycle before riding. Check tire pressure and tread, and ensure your motorcycle is in overall good mechanical condition.

3. Wear proper riding apparel.

4. Do not ride above your abilities.

5. Be respectful to others on the road.

6. Be aware of your surroundings at all times…be attentive.

Let’s all share the road and have a great summer.
