Walking to Wellness Hydration & Healthy Eating

As the 4th Annual Walking to Wellness event approaches, part of the training is to be aware of what you put into your body.

The principal component in your body is water making up approximately 60% of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. While training for an event, it is especially important to stay hydrated. Drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day is a good guideline. Remember to stay hydrated every day. It is important to drink fluids throughout the day – not just before and after a workout.

Experts agree the key to healthy eating is the time-tested advice of balance, variety and moderation. Seasoned rubs are the secret to adding tons of flavor — without lots of fat — to grilled meat, chicken, seafood and more. Follow these ten tips to maintain healthy eating habits.

1. Eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods.

2. Enjoy plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

3. Maintain a healthy weight.

4. Eat moderate portions.

5. Eat regular meals.

6. Reduce, don’t eliminate certain foods.

7. Balance your food choices over time - If you miss out on any food group one day, make up for it the next.

8. Know your diet pitfalls.

9. Make changes gradually.

10. Remember, foods are not good or bad.
