Long X Arts Foundation to hold Summer Art Classes for Kids

The McKenzie County Long X Arts Foundation has partnered with Watford City Parks and Recreation to hold a series of arts classes for kids from June 6 to July 27 as part of Parks and Recreation’s Summer programming.

Art enthusiast Mary McCullough has prepared two different curriculums for two different age groups that will run once a week.

The Tots Art Class is geared toward children 3 to 6 years old and will be held on Tuesdays at 10 am starting June 6th and running until July 25th at the Rough Rider Center.

The Tot Class will be centered around Caldecott Award Winning books. The Caldecott Award is given to children’s books with outstanding illustration.

Each class will begin with a select book reading, a short discussion and an art project related to the story. Book examples include, but are not limited to IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE, THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR, CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, THERE WAS AN OLD LADY, CLICK CLACK MOO, TIME FLIES and FABLES.

Youth Art Classes are geared toward 2nd to 5th grade children and will run Thursdays beginning June 8th until July 27th at 10am at the Rough Rider Center.

The Youth Art Class will focus on introducing children to famous American artists by exposing them to their art, discussing their techniques and styles, and what influences shaped their art. The class will then do an art project that will explore the artists’ method and subject matter. Artists include, but are not limited to Andy Warhol, Walter Thibaud, Grand Wood, Edward Hopper, Romare Bearden, Faith Ringgold, James Rizzi and Georgia O’Keefe.

The class registration fee is $60 for the entire series to help cover cost of supplies.
