Soccer season is nearing so be sure to sign up for recreational and/or traveling teams. Sidney’s recreational soccer team registration is available online and began Jan. 1 and continues through Feb. 18.

In-person registration is available Feb. 7 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Sidney Middle School room 312.

The cost of registration is $60 per player and the player must be 5 years old (by April 1) and up to 8th grade. There will be a $15 late fee for all registration received after Feb. 18 (late registration closes Feb. 25).

“Sidney Soccer works hard to keep prices down and offers many opportunities for the youth to compete in a low competitive league and our highly competitive travel league,” said Sidney Soccer Director of Coaching and Secretary, Marie Holler.

Online registration for traveling teams started Jan. 1 and closes Jan. 21 (no registration will be accepted after this date). In-person registration is available Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Sidney Middle School room 312.

A registration fee of $150 is required per player plus the cost of uniform and travel; an additional $20 is required to play recreational soccer (No registration will be accepted without payment). Players must be born within 2001-2010. Montana State Soccer will be held June 11-12 in Livingston MT.

This past season, both of the travel teams took 2nd at the state competition and are hoping to claim 1st place this season. Sidney Soccer is looking for community members to join the board to help keep soccer strong in Sidney. Holler explained that there is a lot of prepping and planning before the season and the board is stretched thin, they would love to see others join and grow soccer in the area.

“Soccer is a great way to get outside into fresh air, it is not a huge commitment as most teams have games 1-2 times a week. Athletes learn to move their bodies in new ways, work as a team, and meet some new friends. It is a great way to brush off the winter weather and stretch out tight muscles. It is a great sport for the variety of athletes out there,” added Holler.

Sidney soccer is also looking for referees, this is a paid position and is needed both for travel and rec soccer games. Refs are required to have a general knowledge of the game and be over the age of 14.

“We are always excited for a new season, new friends, the smiles and rosy cheeks of the players, and the ability to provide positive outlets for athletes in the community.”
