Hygge: A Celebration Of Calm & Comforting Times With Loved Ones In Watford City Feb. 11

The Long X Visitor Center and Pioneer Gift Shop will be holding their annual Celebration of Hygge on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For the first time, in 2023, the celebration is spilling out into the streets.

Watford City's Hygge (Hoogah) event has been celebrated for many years and has always been held at the visitor center. As with every year, everyone is invited to a day of "fika", a Scandinavian cultural tradition of kaffee (coffee), a wonderful baked treat, and simply taking a break. From 2-3 p.m., there will be a Hygge Hand-Dipped Candle Class by the Long X Art Foundation where Miss Jess will teach attendees the art of hand-dipping candles. She will guide them through the steps, and add a warm, comforting scent for a special touch. It is $10 for a set of two. Those wishing to participate in the candle-making class must preregister at http://www.longarts.com/event/hygge-hand-dipped-candle-class or drop into the visitor center before Feb 11.

The celebration will not stop at the visitor center's doors this year. Along Main Street in downtown Watford City, several stores are joining in the celebration. Larsen Service Drug will be offering discounts, goodie bags, and giveaways from 9 a.m.-noon. Beaver Creek Kids is having "Little Loves" deals and treats from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Meyer's Department Store is having "Galentines Day" deals and treats from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Door 204 is having their "Game Date" event from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Elle's Boutique is holding a Build Your Own Valentine's Day Basket event from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

The three Scandinavian countries, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are consistently in the World's 10 Happiest Countries List with Norway taking first in 2017. Before 2017 Denmark was considered the happiest country for several years in a row according to http://www.travelandleisure.com's 10 Happiest Countries in the World in 2022 article.
