Counterfeit Bills Appear in Sidney

On May 25, the Sidney Chamber of Commerce provided information that a local business received a $50 counterfeit bill. They recently received information from a local bank that a $100 US bill was turned in for deposit from the same local business that was confirmed to have a counterfeit bill. The counterfeit is a little smaller than a regular bill and has no security strip. The color is the same as an authentic bill, but it has no texture. If tested with a counterfeit pen, it shows black instead of the usual yellow. The chamber advises businesses to pay special attention to larger denomination bills to make sure that they are authentic currency. If you do come across a questionable bill, please retain the bill and notify law enforcement immediately. If the person or persons passing the bill refuse to stay until law enforcement arrives, please try to get a good physical description and description of any vehicles.

If you have any questions, please contact the Sidney Police department at 406-433-2210 and ask for Major Burnison.
