Tobacco Gardens Opens New, Larger Concession & Restaurant

Summer Editions

Tobacco Gardens Resort on Lake Sakakawea near Watford City opened the 2012 summer season with a completely rebuilt concession and restaurant. Owner Peggy Hellandsaas tore down the trailer that housed the old concession and built a 50' by 50' stick built building that’s four times larger. “We started the project in December and ended in May,” stated Peggy. “Everyone enjoys the new building.”

The new restaurant portion is now equipped to provide 50 person seating plus a kitchen three times larger than the old one. “The old kitchen was only 12' by 20' with no A/C.” said Peggy. “Now we have plenty of room to work and do our jobs. Plus it’s not 150 degrees in there when it’s 100 degrees outside,” she continued.

The resort also continues to offer its c-store, bait & tackle, 150 camping sites, 2 cabin rentals and catering. Gas is also available for purchase from the land and from the water.

The change in water level compared to last year has revealed nice sandy beaches and much of the trees & brush have been cleared. Both of the Tobacco Gardens’ boat ramps are working as well.

The folks at Tobacco Gardens are thrilled to see the positive response from the community and new people to the area. “We are open year round. We want Tobacco Gardens to be like going to a neighbors house to visit with friends. Quiet, warm and cozy,” stated Peggy.

Tobacco Gardens Resort is located 25 miles northeast of Watford City on Hwy. 1806W. For further information or to make reservations call 701-842-4199 or 701-842-4240 or email them at tobaccogardens@rugged west.com.
