Eagles Drop Game Against Glendive

Sidney's softball squad put up a good fight, but the Eagles lost at home against conference foe Glendive, 14-6, on April 16.

The pitching of junior Amiya Steinbeisser kept Sidney close as the Eagles trailed by only a 3-0 margin after three innings of play.

After Glendive increased its lead to 7-0 in the top of the fourth, the Eagles responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to cut the margin to 7-5.

Sidney's Aiyana Kirn singled and Steinbeisser reached on an error to open the bottom of the fourth. Amaiya Kirn then connected for a single to bring home her younger sister. Steinbeisser scored on a double-steal play for a 7-2 game.

Lambert student Keira Rains, a junior, belted a three-run homer to pull the Eagles to 7-5.

Glendive added four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Sidney's Aiyana Kirn singled and later scored on a wild pitch for an 11-6 margin.

The Red Devils, however, tallied three more runs, including a two-run homer by winning pitcher Jaelin Jimison, in the top of the seventh for the 14-6 final.

The Eagles then lost conference home games against Havre and Lewistown on Saturday.

Havre defeated Sidney by a 12-2 final. The Blue Ponies scored six of their runs in the fourth inning.

Scoring in the contest for the Eagles were Amaiya Kirn and Izabella Baisch.

Lewistown downed Sidney by a 17-0 final.

The Eagles will host Watford City Thursday and Miles City on Friday.
