Youth Sector -Active in the Community for the Community!

The Youth Action Group began from the Richland County Partnership for Promise, which was started after the 1998 Governor’s Summit on Youth for Montana’s Promise. After the summit in July, each town in Richland County held focus groups made up of youth and adults that had the mission of working together in collaboration to create an ongoing healthy, supportive environment for the youth of Richland County. The Partnership aims to fill the 5 pieces of America’s promise: Caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, teaching marketable skills, and opportunities to serve. With this in mind, the Partnership identified what opportunities in Richland County were available that fulfilled the five promises, and what gaps and resources were missing.

Other programs that the Partnership has created or helped support include the Trading Card Program, Sidney Soccer, Kick Butts Day, the Skate Park, Friday Night Lights, Montana SAFE Kids/Safe Communities, Plant the Promise, helped create the Boys and Girls Club, the Parade of Trees Auction, Red Ribbon Week, the Duct Tape Fashion Show, Seatbelt Safety, Parenting Education Classes, Tobacco Prevention, Car Seat Safety, the D.A.R.E. Program and many more events that help fulfill those five promises.

The group is made up of individuals and organizations from around the county that have an interest in helping our youth live healthy and productive lives. The current goals from this year are supporting the Boys and Girls Club as they look to transitioning to a new space, increasing parent education and involvement, and increasing the number of youth-focused activities at community functions. This group meets on the second Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in Room 201 of the Community Services Building, located at 1201 West Holly Street in Sidney.
